The International Wine Challenge(IWC) is accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged wine competition. In 2007, Sake section started. Dewanosato is champion Sake in 2016!
Yamagata, Japan
In 2018, Sake section will be held in Yamagata, Japan. Why Yamagata? In 2016, for the first time in prefectures, Yamagata Prefecture received designation of Sake’s Geographical Indication (GI) from government of Japan. In the world of wine, it is a system to protect regional brands like Bordeaux and Champagne. Therefore, Yamagata is a regional brand of Sake.
About the IWC
The IWC owned by William Reed Business Media is the one of the biggest wine competition.In 2007, Sake section started. Throughout the rigorous judging processes by the most important
people in the wine world,”Master of wine”, sommeliers, buyers and writers, each medal-winning wine is tasted on three separate occasions by at least 10 different judges and awards include medals (Trophy, Gold, Silver, Bronze) and Commended and Great Value awards.
Sake section
There are 9 categories in Sake section, Junmai, Junmai Ginjo, Junmai Daiginjo, Honzojo, Ginjo, Daiginjo, Koshu(Aged Sake), Sparkling Sake and Futsu-shu, and awards include medals (Gold, Silver, Blonze) and Commented from each section. And then the highest prize (Trophy) is awarded to one of the best Gold medals from each section. Champion Sake is the year’s best Sake of all chosen from all Trophy.
