AWASAKE Wins Prize in 2020 International Sake Challenge

Best Sparkling Sake –  “AWA SAKE”

The International SAKE Challenge is an annual sake competition in Tokyo where Japanese sake experts come together with wine experts from Asia, North America, and Europe to taste sake and bestow awards upon the ones they deem to be the best.

At this year’s competition in September, AWA SAKE by Dewazakura Sake Brewery in Yamagata Prefecture won the first place trophy prize in the Sparkling Sake category.

Japan AWASAKE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED

Being a high-quality sparkling sake, AWA SAKE has passed the strict product examinations and quality checks of the prestigious Japan Awasake Association.

At this moment, the association consists of 25 established sake breweries that collaborate to set the gold standard for what good sparkling sake should be. They share brewing knowledge with each other, fund academic research, and hold events to educate the public about sparkling sake, all while using media to promote their sake to customers in Japan and overseas.

Member breweries must submit to two inspections per year that ensure their compliance with association standards. In addition, every batch of finished sparkling sake is carefully checked for quality before it is bottled and sold. If you want sparkling sake that is guaranteed to be high quality, look for the Japan Awasake Association’s official hologram seal of authentication on the bottle!

DELICATE BUBBLES, DELICATE PRESENTATION

AWA SAKE’s delicate bubbles will make your heart tingle and dance just by looking at them. They are like tickly little kisses!

Before tasting this sparkling sake, take a minute to enjoy its unique, elegant appearance. Under illumination, this clear sake shines brilliantly gold with tinges of green and silver. Give this light-bodied sake a quick swirl in a wine glass to see the colours dance!

Awa Sake - sparkling sake

Champagne-like sparkling sake

AWA SAKE’s most distinct visual characteristic is the following: when it is poured into a glass, the carbon dioxide gas produced during its second fermentation forms extremely fine bubbles that rise to the top in a straight line. Just like it is with champagne, the bubbles’ size shows the sake’s quality; the smaller the bubbles, the fewer impurities are in the sake.

This sparkling sake has a gentle flavour and is easy to drink, especially for sake beginners! The fine bubbles draw out the sake’s light sweetness that spreads in the mouth together with a pleasant fresh aroma.
